Cleaning the watch, tips and explanation

How do I clean the watch?

Cleaning a watch is very important and also hygienic. At LOISIR we often get the question from people how you can clean a watch yourself. That is why we decided to write a blog about cleaning watches and watch straps.

Wearing a watch day-in, day-out can result in dirt and sweat that builds up over time. To ensure a longer life of your watch, it is recommended to take good care of your watch. Regular cleaning of a wristwatch is therefore a requirement. If you do this, it goes without saying that you will enjoy a shiny watch for longer. It requires minimal effort and yet it delivers a great result, namely a clean and shiny watch.  Check out  our   duplicate Rolex watches for sale collections

Tips for cleaning your watch (strap):

Cleaning a watch varies by type of watch. You will have to clean a rubber watch strap differently than a metal (stainless steel) watch strap.

  • Use an absorbent soft cloth to clean the watch glass. A good example of a suitable cloth for cleaning jewelry and watches are polyester or  microfibre  cloths.
  • Cleaning stainless steel watch straps : use a dry toothbrush with soft bristles. Carefully clean the watch thoroughly with this. You do this by gently scrubbing with the soft bristles. You can also use a  brush  or floss, but make sure that it is as soft as possible to prevent any damage. See image (1) for an example of a metal watch strap. Also read the educational blog about shortening metal watch straps yourself .
  • Cleaning rubber and silicone watch straps : Clean gently with water. Do not use any solvents as these can damage the plastic, rubber or silicone. See image (2) for an example of a plastic, rubber, or silicone watch strap.
  • cleaning leather watch straps : gently rub the strap with a soft cloth. See image (3) for an example of a watch with a leather strap.

Possible danger that can lead to malfunctions of your watch

We now know how to clean a watch. But there are other points of attention that you should pay attention to to keep your watch optimally shiny! There are a number of factors that can pose a danger to the functioning of your clock as well as possible. Below you will find an overview of a number of sources that can lead to possible damage:

Temperature:  Do not leave your watch in blazing sun or expose it to extreme temperatures. This can shorten the life of the battery.

Impact:  Our watches are made to withstand everyday shocks in normal conditions. Do not wear your watch during contact sports or when the watch can be seriously impacted. Serious damage can occur if the watch is dropped or if it is subjected to strong shocks (contact sports, accident, etc.). Magnetic Field:  Our watches are anti-magnetic up to 60 gauss, so they are unaffected by normal household appliances. When the watch is worn in intense magnetic fields, the operation of the watch may be temporarily disrupted.

Electric field:  If a watch is exposed to a strong electric field, this can reduce the accuracy of the watch. Normally, it hardly ever happens that you end up in such a powerful electric field. So damage to your watch due to an electric field will not occur often.

Chemicals:  Never wear the watch in the presence of perfume, strong chemicals, or gases. Some parts of the watch could possibly lose their color, dissolve or even break. A watch case and strap can discolour when they come into contact with mercury, which is released, for example, by a broken thermometer. So pay special attention to chemicals in front of your watch.

Caution about watches
