Replace the battery of a watch yourself

If your watch is always behind

Inevitably, sooner or later things will go wrong with battery-powered watches. The most famous watches, with a quartz movement, are nine times out of ten on the battery. This will then need to be replaced. And this is important! Your watch will show all kinds of defects when the battery is almost empty. You also run the risk of the battery leaking. The acids released then destroy the electronic timepiece of your watch. And then you can actually throw it away right away.

To the watchmaker

With professional and waterproof first copy watches online you naturally go to the professional. Firstly, because the timepieces of these watches contain complications. Secondly, because the watch case is often heavier, which makes opening and closing more difficult. In these cases, you better go to a real watchmaker who has both the experience and the tools to do this kind of job.

How do you open a watch?

You can disassemble quartz watches yourself. Read below how to replace the battery of a watch yourself.

Step 1: Buy a watch tool or a watch repair kit
You need tools to change the battery of your watch. Which tools largely depends on the type of back. You generally have three types of closures: a snap back , a screw back, and a hatch back . You need different tools for each type of closure. The snap back can be opened with a thin kitchen knife, for example. For the screw back, on the other hand, you need a special watch opener. The last of the three, the hatchback, has small slots and can be opened with a precision screwdriver.

Are you at home in all markets? Choose a watch repair kit and you have the tools to open all three types of watch cases.

Step 2: Open the watch
- With a snap off back, place a knife or precision screwdriver in the seam between the back of the watch case and the case itself. Then you pry the back with a few movements (see photo).

This can cause scratches, so proceed with caution.

This involves the precise placement of the watch opener. With the wheels you adjust the metal catches so that they fit exactly in the notches on the back of the watch. If you do this correctly, the watch is clamped in the opener. After that you just have to turn and the back comes loose.

- Hatch back watches can be recognized by the four screws. Take a precision Phillips screwdriver and simply unscrew the back of the watch case. Again, don't do this with professional, waterproof or diver watches.

Step 3: Test the battery
You now know how to open a watch. The next step is to test the battery. You want to be sure that there is the problem. For this you need a battery tester. This clearly indicates whether the battery is still good. Empty batteries can be disposed of immediately with the chemical waste. It is also recommended to replace it with low batteries. If your watch has two batteries and only one of the two batteries is still good, replace both batteries.

Step 4: Clean the battery compartment
Dust and dirt are harmful to the inside of your watch. Therefore, remove any mess you come across with a dry cloth or tweezers.

Step 5: Insert a new battery into your watch
Most watches have button cells. These are small batteries that differ in size and brand. In this table you will find the different types and sizes.
