This is the difference between the Rolex Submariner, Sea-Dweller and Deepsea

Rolex divers take the plunge underwater.

If you take a quick look, you will initially say that the Submariner, Sea-Dweller, and Deepsea from Rolex first copy watches are like three drops of water (ha-ha). The divers all have a bezel with which you can keep an eye on your underwater time, have a steel strap, and (in this case) a black dial.

Robust and sporty watches, the designs of which have long been popular with watch enthusiasts. But what's the difference between these three models? In an interesting video, the experts from Watchfinder & Co. are up to you.

Starting with how deep these watches can go underwater. To come straight to the point: the Submariner is actually the wimp of the three. In 1953, Rolex introduced the Submariner, which was the first diving watch to be water-resistant to 100 meters. Groundbreaking for that time, but the watch only really became known when it was seen on the silver screen in Bond films on the wrist of 007 himself.

Thirteen years later, in 1967, it was the turn of the Sea-Dweller. It appears quite similar to the Submariner, but this watch could be a lot further underwater. At that time, the Sea-Dweller was already good for 610 meters below sea level. This made it the ultimate watch for professional deep-sea divers.

Only in 2008 was the (modern) Deepsea added to the Rolex collection: a watch that was specially designed for extreme missions underwater. A technical innovation, the Ringlock System, ensures that the watch case can withstand extremely high pressure (very deep) underwater. The Deepsea can be the deepest underwater of all models of the Swiss brand and can even be a hundred times deeper than what a human can physically handle. Is it useful to you? Maybe not, but hey, it could be. For what it's worth.

Since the arrival of the Submariner in the 1950s and the Sea-Dweller in the 1960s, these two models have progressed. Today the Submariner can dive up to 300 meters and the Sea-Dweller is good for a dive up to 1220 meters. The Deepsea really trumps the Rolex crown, with a maximum depth of 3900 meters.

If you looked at how far the watches can go underwater, the Submariner would be the first to lose weight. But they are just numbers. And dive watch wearers are unlikely to get beyond a summer dip in a chlorine pool.

You can see in the video how the watches were developed and how Rolex fought against the (also revolutionary) developments of the Swiss watch brand Omega. In the meantime, you can consider which of the three watches you prefer. Perhaps the price tag still has an influence on that?

You can buy the Rolex Submariner new for € 6,900 (without date indication), the Sea-Dweller costs € 10,450 and the Deepsea € 11,350. The deeper we dive, the higher the price. By the way, these are the prices of the Oystersteel versions. The models are also available in a bicolor edition in Oystersteel and yellow gold or full yellow gold.
